Jarratt, David (23rd September 1936-March 2012)

He was a tenor singer and army Lt. Col born David Arthur Jarratt in Green Castle, Indiana who moved to Newton, Masssachusetts with his family in 1949.  He studied at Newton High School and after graduation went to St. Olaf College in Minnesota.

After graduating from the college with honors as a second lieutenant in the US Air Force, he served in Iceland during the early 1960s.  While there he got  married and went on to have three daughters.

After leaving his service he studied at Southern Massachusetts University where he earned his Master’s degree in music.   He went on to work at Tanglewood with the conductor Boris Goldolvsky and was a singer with the Robert Shaw Chorale.  He gave numerous performances in opera and musical theatre on and off Broadway and also performed at the White House.  He was a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild.

Recordings he performed on include Walk in a Circle and Music Is Fun with Mary Sue Berry and South Pacific (Music Theater of Lincoln Center Recording).

Outside of his musical career he was also a pilot instructor and had been a green beret and worked on search and rescue in Iceland and during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.

He died in Newton, Massachusetts in March 2012 when he was 75 years old.
