He is a guitarist, slide guitarist and singer-songwriter born in Canton, Mississippi who lived in Jackson, Mississippi, and Lafayette, Louisiana, while young. During this time he learned to play the trumpet and he used elements of his experience with this instrument for his guitar performances.
After he had been playing with bands local to his home in Louisiana, he became acquainted with Clifton Chernier when he was 17, which led him to joining his Red Hot Louisiana Band and it was during these years that he became a virtuoso.
He is noted for his personal technique on the slide guitar and this has brought him recognition over the years where he has been sought out to perform with, record and/or tour with many acclaimed artists that include Jimmy Buffett, Clifton Chenier, Marshall Crenshaw, Terence Trent D’Arby, Dr. John, Freddy Fender, Buddy Guy, John Hiatt, Mark Knopfler, Little Feat, Kenny Loggins, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Allen Toussaint and Junior Wells and Eric Clapton called him “probably the most underestimated musician on the planet”.
In 1981 he released his first album, Blues Attack, and since then he has released a further sixteen including Outward Bound, Crazy Cajun Recordings, Levee Town and The Road We’re On. Other albums he has appeared on include License to Chill, Far Aide of the World and Paddlin’ Out by Jimmy Buffett, Restless on the Farm by Jerry Douglas, Tiki Bar is Open and Beneath This Gruff Exterior by John Hiatt, Night in London by Mark Knopfler, Outside: From the Redwoods by Kenny Loggins, Sense of Place by John Mayall, After the Rain by Irma Thomas, You Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Dead and Gone) by the Muddy Waters Tribute Band and Come On In This House by Junior Wells.
