(Brian Collins/Robby Campbell)
This song started out life as “Hello Mama” that had been recorded for a small record label in Houston after Brian Collins had written it with his bass player, Robby Campbell. They were travelling from Chicago to Houston and after stopping at a motel he started singing it and swapped the word “Mama” for “Texas” which led to him writing a new song called “Hello Texas”.
Jimmy Buffett recorded this song for the soundtrack of the 1980 film Urban Cowboy starring John Travolta. It was released on single with the flip side being “Lyin’ Eyes” by The Eagles but did not enter any of the charts.
